Glycols

Glycol, also called diol, is a chemical compound with many subcategories. It’s part of the organic compounds that belong to the alcohol family.
The simplest member of the class is ethylene glycol, a popular antifreeze due to its heat transfer properties.
It could be used in automobile systems, as a coolant in automotive radiators, and as antifreeze in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning). Additionally, ethylene glycol could be used as an ingredient in paint solvents and printing inks. It is also used as a reagent in making alkyd resins, explosives, polyesters, and synthetic waxes.
Another popular glycol is Propylene glycol, also known as 1,2-propanediol. It works as a moisture-retaining agent, preservative, and solvent. It is not toxic and can be used in cosmetics, foods, and hygiene products.

Butylene Glycol

Butylene glycol, also known as 1,3-butanediol or butane-1,3-diol, is a chemical compound that belongs to the glycol family. It is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless liquid used as a solvent and as a humectant in cosmetics and personal care products.

It is commonly used as a solvent in manufacturing paints, inks, and other coatings. It is also used as a starting material for producing other chemicals, such as tetrahydrofuran (THF) and 1,4-butanediol, which are used as solvents and reactants in synthesizing other chemicals. In the cosmetics and personal care industry, butylene glycol is used as a humectant to help products retain moisture and improve their texture. It also dissolves other ingredients in products, such as fragrances and active ingredients. Butylene glycol is generally considered safe for cosmetics and personal care products, although some people may be sensitive to it.

Univar Solutions can serve your butylene glycol needs wherever you need it. Diethylene Glycol

Diethylene Glycol (DEG) is a colorless, low-volatility, low-viscosity, hygroscopic liquid. Under normal conditions, diethylene glycol has no detectable odor.  However, a slightly sweet odor may be detected under high vapor concentrations.   DEG is completely miscible with water and many organic liquids. Because of its higher molecular weight, DEG is considerably less volatile than ethylene glycol and differs sufficiently in that it has specialized uses. The reactivity and solubility of diethylene glycol provide the basis for many applications.

Univar Solutions supplies Diethylene Glycol nationwide.  With more than 120 distribution centers, a private fleet, and professional staff, we provide proven reliability and quality service at every touchpoint.

Dipropylene Glycol

Dipropylene Glycol, also known as 2,2-dipropylene glycol or DPG, is a high-purity product that belongs to the glycol family. It is a colorless, water-soluble, hygroscopic, nearly odorless, and tasteless liquid used as a solvent and plasticizer in the manufacture of cosmetics and personal care products, such as fragrances and cosmetics.

In the cosmetics and personal care industry, dipropylene glycol is used as a plasticizer to improve the texture and consistency of products. It is also used as a solvent to dissolve other ingredients in products, such as fragrances and active ingredients.

Univar Solutions can serve your Dipropylene Glycol needs wherever you need it. With over 120 distribution centers across the country and our global supply network, Univar Solutions is committed to servicing all your chemical needs. Given our private fleet of trucks and railcars, technical experts and our focus on service excellence, we are your trustworthy supplier and partner.

Ethylene Glycol

Ethylene glycol, also known as monoethylene glycol or MEG, is an odorless, colorless, hygroscopic liquid. It exhibits low volatility and low viscosity and is also fully miscible in water and many other organic liquids. The hydrogenation of ethylene oxide produces ethylene glycol, a chemical compound obtained from petroleum or natural gas processing. It can also be synthesized from other starting materials, such as acetylene or ethanol.

Because of the reactivity of the hydroxyl group and the high degree of solubility, ethylene glycol provides a broad range of applications. Besides serving as an intermediate to chemical synthesis, it can produce resins and lower the freezing point of water, lending its efficacy as an anti-freeze. It is also used as a solvent in manufacturing paints, inks, and other coatings and as a starting material for producing other chemicals, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is used to make plastic bottles and other containers.

Univar Solutions can serve your ethylene glycol needs wherever you need it. With over 120 distribution centers across the country and our global supply network, Univar Solutions is committed to servicing all your chemical needs. Given our private fleet of trucks and railcars, technical experts and our focus on service excellence, we are your trustworthy supplier and partner.

Glycols Inhibited

Glycols inhibited refers to a type of propylene glycol or ethylene glycol formulated with corrosion inhibitors to protect metal surfaces from corrosion. Glycols are commonly used as coolants, heat transfer fluids, and de-icing agents and can be corrosive to certain metals when used in high concentrations. To protect against corrosion, glycols can be formulated with corrosion inhibitors, which are chemical compounds that help to prevent corrosion by forming a protective layer on metal surfaces.

Glycols inhibited with corrosion inhibitors are commonly used in various applications, including as coolants in automotive, industrial, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, as well as in closed-loop water systems, such as those found in industrial and commercial buildings. They are also used in de-icing systems for aircraft, as well as in oil and gas production and refining operations.

Univar Solutions can serve your Glycols inhibited needs wherever you need it. With over 120 distribution centers across the country and our global supply network, Univar Solutions is committed to servicing all your chemical needs. Given our private fleet of trucks and railcars, technical experts and our focus on service excellence, we are your trustworthy supplier and partner.
