Ketones

In organic chemistry, a ketone is an organic compound with the structure R₂C=O, where R can be a variety of carbon-containing substituents. Combined with other functional groups, ketone and aldehydes are widespread in nature. They are also known as methanoyl or formyl group, and are very common and essential in biology and industry.
The simplest ketone is acetone, with the formula CH₃CCH₃, which is an excellent solvent for plastics and synthetic fibers.
Ketones are also used in household products, medicine, the production of nylon, plastics, paint remover, paraffin wax, textiles, varnishes, and more.
