Social Impact Accreditation
Sustainability Characteristic Definition
Products with this sustainability characteristic have a specific socially-focused-related claim, verification, approval, listing, certification, attestation, and/or accreditation from an independent party. The certification or accreditation may indicate the producer, supplier, and/or product meets certain standards which enable social impact to be realized in a material’s production. Suppliers must provide accreditation aligned to the most recent standard available with expiration dates included.
The accreditation must be given at the product level. Accreditations address criteria aligned with delivering social value such as fair wages, labor practices, transparency, and community investment.
Examples of Social Impact Accreditations include, but are not limited to:
- Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)
- Fair for Life (FFL)
- FairWild
- NaturLand Fair
- Small Producers’ Symbol standard (SPP)
- Rainforest Alliance
- UTZ
- Global Organic Textile Standard
- The Copper Mark
Regulatory documents covering animal-related issues, i.e., cruelty-free or vegan are not considered social impact accreditation but rather valuable regulatory information that is also available.
