Xylene is a clear, colorless liquid and with a sweet odor. It is an aromatic solvent that is insoluble in water and has a medium boiling point with an evaporation rate that is 3.2 times slower than toluene. Xylene has key uses in alkyd resins, cleaning fluids, enamels, lacquers, paint solvents and strippers, and rubber cement.
